Corona Letters #51

 Our President has corona virus.

I would be remiss if I didn't chronicle this historical event.

It's so odd.  So very strange and hard to wrap one's head around.

The first presidential debates were this past week and I think the general consensus from both sides was that it was a "shit show".

I'm not going to go into details about what was said during the debate but you know.  you know.

So a couple of days after this infamous debate it is announced in the wee hours of the night that the President and the First Lady had tested positive for corona virus.  The President himself tweeted these results.

The world went crazy with this news.

Some folks had a hard time believing it was true.   If the President has coronavirus, his two week quarantine would "allow" him to miss the next debate, and the first debate did not do his numbers any favors.   Also, his being sick might garner sympathy from his supporters who might have been put off by some of the things he said at the debate.   Some people thought/think it is just another one of his lies.  A election tactic.

Other people who believed the news had their own concerns.   Those who support him worried about his health, and wondered if he would be able to keep running for President?   People who don't support him ALSO worried about his health, but worried that this might help his numbers, he would get sympathy votes.

As people debated whether this was "fake news" or not, other stories started breaking.   The President was being moved to Walter Reed Hospital in DC for treatment and close observation.   This caused people to wonder if he was worse than the press was letting on, or if this was all one giant scam.   Then several other people who had been at the Amy Coney Barrett Supreme Court Justice nomination at the White House the Saturday before the debates started testing positive for corona virus as well, including(but not limited to) Hope Hicks, senior counselor to President Trump, Kellyanne Conway, former senior White House counselor and John Jenkins, President of Notre Dame (notoriously famous for not taking any precautions to ensure the safety of the students of his University).

With the addition of these positively tested attendants of the White House event, it becomes harder to believe that the Presidents diagnosis is a scam (although not entirely impossible).

I believe that a President falling ill this close to an election is unprecedented, much like the rest of 2020.  There are so many questions about what will happen in the coming weeks.

Even though I am not a supporter of our current President, I would like to wish him a quick, full recovery so this election can truly be about the issues at hand.

If there is one positive that comes out of this whole debacle, I hope the country can FINALLY agree that wearing masks and keeping social distance is paramount to managing the spread of this virus.

Stay healthy everyone and thoughts and prayers to our President!
